In Breakfast at Tiffany's, Paul Varjak says to Holly Golightly, "You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, 'Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness.' You call yourself a free spirit, a 'wild thing', and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself." And ya know what? He's right and this message is for any of us who hold ourselves back from anything because we're afraid of what we might be able to be, might be able to do. We fear our own power. We fear interdependence of others because we could be let down or let others down.
Fear can be a catalyst, but it can also be a limiter. The decision is yours. The decision is mine. It is the one thing we each get to control; our choice as to how to act, react, feel and do! So what are you going to do with your fear? Let it keep you caged or allow it to provoke you to act. To become. To shine. To soar. Choose!
